Essence of Internal Theory

During the time that Sifu Armando Sainz attended Master Paolillo's private lessons, classes included: Chen style - the first form, Chen style Pao Choi - the second form, Silk Reeling Spiral Power Qi Gong, Hsing-I Chuan theory, Dragon Style Ba Gua Zhang, Tao Style and the classical weapons.

Chen Tai Chi Chuan is an internal martial art system that develops a variety of attributes through a base of concepts necessary for hand to hand combat.
Acknowledged as the oldest and the ancestor of all other Tai Chi styles, Chen Tai Chi Chuan is known for its use of spiraling movements, low stances, and the principles of Yin & Yang.

Based on ancient boxing methods and popular among the military of North China, Chen Tai Chi retains a powerful self-defense method with a progressive, logical training approach for fighters. This system, powered by its unique silk reeling spiral power for explosive energy during combat, contains approaches that are conceptual first and technical second.

Silk Reeling Spiral Power Qi Gong is a set of exercises derived from movements in the Chen Tai Chi Form. The exercises utilize spiraling motions throughout the body, which loosens the joints and helps circulate energy. Through the study of silk reeling, the Chen Tai Chi boxer builds a well-tempered balance of forces in the body. The mechanics of simultaneous pulling and pushing powered by mobile rootedness in application causes a confusion in the attacker's body, which appears similar to the mechanics of wrestling but is actually fueled by the torque derived from the coiling nature of spiral energy. Thus when two sides of the attacker's body are forced to move in opposing directions, an expression of tremendous torque occurs resulting in the effect of "splitting" or "twisting", severing their root. In essence, the Chen boxer disrupts the opponent's physical balance abruptly and finishes the encounter with explosive attacks.

First the opponent is lulled into an over-committed posture which is suddenly exploited by the Chen boxer with forceful energy that immobilizes and usually finishes the bout with a lock, throw, or worse. While this might seem like advanced judo leveraging techniques, it is not. Chen Tai Chi methods exploit imperfections in an aggressor's structure to render his limbs and stance impotent, rather than relying on just techniques of leverage to throw or dominate an opponent.

Chen Pao Choi translates to “Cannon Fist” and is the second form in Chen Tai Chi, it's focus being the issuing of martial power and cultivation of the warrior spirit. The movement and philosophy of the Pao Choi form is similar to to that of Hsing-I Chuan and is based on the 5 element theory.

Dragon Ba Gua Zhang is an internal martial art that shares the same principles as Tai Chi, but is distinguished by circular footwork patterns, continuous movement, and open palm techniques. The essence of Ba Gua and its ghost-like qualities is based on the eight trigrams of the I-Ching. The Tao Style is an advanced method of internal martial arts that cultivates creative energy in the practitioner. The principles of Chen Tai Chi, Dragon Ba Gua and non-mechanical movement found in the Tao style act as a foundation for our advanced training.

With internal strength harnessed through core concepts, you will exhibit a strength, sensitivity and responsiveness not reliant on amassing techniques like in external martial arts systems such as Karate, Tae Kwon Do and most Kung Fu systems. Once free of trying to memorize and perfect a multitude of techniques, you becomes open to more coherent fighting methods. It is this quality that fighters of any discipline strive for, but few achieve; whereas in Sifu Armando Sainz' WingChun system it is just considered a natural stage in what is a highly progressive, logical system of combat.
